When Claire went to my mama's house last weekend, she was surprised to receive a very special gift from her Great Aunt, Mary Dunn: her very own "Mae-Me". You are probably stumped on what a "Mae-Me" is so here's a picture of Claire's and the generations of Mae Me's that preceeded her. I will explain....

The really old Mae Me on the right with the faded cream and red was Claire's Great Grandma, Ash's. She can't quite remember who, but one of her aunts or other relative made it for her. The old one on the left in the picture was Claire's Great Aunt, Mary Dunn's. She was made by Mama Peebles' (Great Grandma Ash's mama who would be Claire's maternal Great, Great Grandmother) sister Aunt Laura Prince-who would be Claire's Great, Great, Great Aunt, I think. The "Elo" Elephant and the Camel were Thomas' Mae-Mes (Yes, boys got them too!). Thomas is Great Grandma Ash's brother. Elo and the Camel were made by Mama Peebles' aunt Aunt Lucy Tabb Cocke Cole. She was Claire's Great, Great, Great, Great Aunt-that's a LOT of greats!) My Mama's Mae Me's (Claire's Grandma) life was ended tragically-it was pulled apart for nesting by mice in the attic of the first house she grew up in-so sad! And of course, Claire's great-aunt Mary Dunn hand made the newest generation of Mae-Me and that is the one in the middle. For some reason it skipped a generation with me and my sister, but we had our special dolls too-albeit not handmade-with my Mary (which Claire has a replica of for when she gets a little older) and my sister's beloved Piglet! Hope you enjoyed the history lesson :)
