This Week's Doctor's Appointment Update

Today I had my, now weekly, doctor's appointment! I'm 36 weeks 3 days (out of 40 weeks for those of you not familiar with pregnancy measured in weeks). First I had an ultrasound so Jeff and I got to see Griffin again! He's definitely head down, which is good, but since his face was down, we didn't get any good profile shots. That's ok though-I would rather him stay head down-locked and in go position! They took all sorts of measurements and based on those, it calculated his estimated weight at 7lbs 9oz. To give you an idea of how big that is, Claire was 7lbs 1oz when she was born at 38 weeks 5 days. So, he's measuring big! 70th percentile for head and 90th percentile for abdomen/stomach. They can't tell his height because he's all squished up in the, literally, fetal position. However, these ultrasounds can be off up to as much as a pound so we'll have to see. We're just going to see how it goes over the next few weeks, but being as how I had Claire when I did, I am really hoping Griffin will show up in the same timeframe. They estimate that they gain about 1/2 lb/week from this point, so if he truly is 7 1/2 lbs right now, he could end up at 9 1/2 if he ever went full term. I am guessing that would end up being more like 8-81/2 but that's just me. My doctor did say that with the body measuring a little larger than the head, that we could run the risk of his head getting out and the body getting stuck-ugh I can't imagine! So, she said she'd prefer I have him on my own or be induced by 39 weeks (right in line with what happened with Claire who came on her own). The first business day to be induced after I turn 39 weeks would be August 23rd, so at least that's kind of the end date in my mind right now. We shall see......I am sure God and Griffin have plans of their own so it will turn out however its meant to be :)

Here are the only 2 decent pictures we got from the ultrasound today. There's actually a third where his arm is in front of his face. The only reason Jeff and I know what it is, is because we saw it in person-by looking at the picture you would never be able to tell. In that picture, we were able to see his chubby little cheeks-just like Claire had when she was born!
More to come after next week's appointment!

She said that Griffin does have hair, but its closer to his head-not flowing in the amniotic fluid like Claire's was-her massive head of hair looked like a zillion centipede legs flowing in the water!

To the left is his foot and to the right is apparently another leg (which I can't personally see but I'm sure she's right!) I love his cute little foot already!
